An extremely bright daylight fireball was seen from Ontario and the state of New York earlier today. Preliminary reports place the time of the event near 4:16 EDT with a brightness rivaling the sun.
Below is a map of the estimated trajectory, based on the witness reports submitted so far. Reports continue to flow into the AMS fireball database.
If you saw this fireball, please fill out an official fireball report with the AMS. To learn more about fireball meteors read our Fireball FAQ.
We encourage witnesses who saw this fireball to also download the AMS Mobile App for iPhone or Android and submit an enhanced fireball report using your mobile device. The data we can collect from the mobile App is more accurate and allows us to determine the velocity of the fireball. If you already submitted a web based report, please also complete the mobile report.
In both videos below, the meteor is caught on a car dashcam. Look for it to drop vertically at about 00:22 seconds.
Look for it to drop vertically at about 00:26 seconds.
Oddly, this event, marks the third significant fireball in the last three days, following a relative slow season for fireballs so far this year. A large fireball with numerous sonic booms fell over Arkansas on Friday night. Another bright fireball was seen over North Carolina Saturday night and this daytime fireball over Ontario marks the third significant event for this weekend. The map below shows the trajectory for all three events.

Excellent dashcam footage (see link) from Toronto from a parked car. I tried uploading the proper way but it kept failing.

Note re previous post. Fireball descent starts from the top at the 21 second mark.
Hi I too saw an odd vertical light this morning while walking my dog. The time was 7am central time. I am in sugar land TX. I cannot give you a bearing because I didn’t think to open my compass on my IPhone 5. I can say that it was to the north east of my location.
